Pre-Stonewall to Post Gay:  Changes in the Coming Out Process Across Five Age Cohorts

This research presentation provides an overview of a mixed methods study using an internet survey which elicited participation from over 1,100 members of the LGBTQ community.  The presentation will provide both an overview of the findings and the strategies used to encourage participation from an often hidden and oppressed population.  Strengths and limitations of the research design will be highlighted.

Providing for Basic Needs of LGBTQ Youth

This interactive workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to learn about foundational issues for LGBTQ youth and to develop solutions to systemic barriers to effective service delivery to these groups. Participants will gain a greater understanding of risk and resilience factors for LGBTQ youth. Additionally, participants will learn why LGBTQ youth are becoming visible at younger ages and the particular challenges that this can present. Participants will also be invited to conceptualize the problems faces by LGBTQ youth as lack of fit with their environment and develop strategies for modifying policies and service systems to provide greater support for LGBTQ youth.
