News and Events

Published November 22, 2016, the day of President Obama’s last formal presentation of the Presidential Medal of Freedom to 20 recipients, here is an article for the Washington Post that I co-authored with Kyle Kopko, Chris Devine of the University of Dayton, and former Etown students Jillian Casey and Julia Ward:

In addition to offering commentary on current events (see my posts), I will be speaking on Philip Roth’s The Plot Against America on Monday, January 23, 7:00 p.m. in the Bowers Writers House.  The talk is titled, “It Can Happen Here: Comparing the Trump and Lindbergh Presidencies.” Roth’s book is a counter-factual history that speculates what might have happened if Charles Lindbergh had defeated FDR in the presidential election of 1940.  There are more than a few parallels between the novel and the path that Donald Trump took to the White House in 2016 and what his presidency might portend.
